Why do people hate doing taxes so much?
I’ll admit, I’ve only done my own twice. And both times I used one of those fancy programs on that there adding machine. I only had one W-2 the first time and two the second time. I don’t have tons of fancy investments.
Total time to complete my taxes: 30 minutes or less per year. Some of that time was waiting on the paper to be expelled from my printer.
I guess it gets more complicated when you get married and have kids and they’re in college and you have a few IRA’s and rolled over 401K’s.
I have a solution for that: Don’t get married or have kids or if you do, don’t let them go to college and don’t save for retirement. Duh!
I ended up getting a couple bucks from federal and owing about 10% of that to The Great Commonwealth of Virginia.
I went to the post office at 1:30pm on the day before due date to mail them out. I went inside, waited in line, and was out in less than 5 minutes. I didn’t get stuck in a line the day before taxes are due. But I can only imagine if I went at 1:30pm on tax due date, I’d be there for at least 30 minutes (not really a long time).
The post office clerks were really trying to push getting your envelopes certified so you can confirm that it gets there. I don’t think it’s really necessary. Don’t be a sucker!
