Les Femmes Poetiques: Las Vegas Women’s Poetry Night 2011

Every Tuesday at 7pm, the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf across from UNLV hosts Word UP!, a spoken word, open mic poetry reading for everyone!

On July 12, 2011, Word UP! held their 12th annual ladies night titled “Les Femmes Poetiques: Las Vegas Women’s Poetry Night 2011″. 12 ladies were given 10 minutes to deliver their poetry to a packed room of poetry-loving patrons. The readers were:

Painters and Poets Jam! (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Painters-and-Poets-Jam/207607545937447) My favorite place to be on a Saturday night. I didn’t take pictures of everyone who performed. I mostly got a few of the people I know well along with some of the people who were hanging around outside (in the rain). Also, a bicycle gang appeared and went to the place next door. All in all, a rockin good time!

Charis’ Birthday Celebration at Yayo Taco // 07-06-11

If you live in Las Vegas and don’t know Charis, well, that might be a good thing. (Just kidding Charis!!!) But she’s one of the coolest people in the city and she knows tons of interesting people.

Her birthday was the week before this one and she set up a monster music menage at Yayo Taco that blew my mind and at least 4 other people there.

Food at Yayo Taco

I was at Yayo Taco yesterday for an awesome friend’s birthday celebration. She had different types of bands come and rock out. Lots of cool people that she knew attended and I met yet another guy from Michigan. I’ll get into all of that when I post the pictures of the performers.

The point of this post is FOOD! I got the student discount because we are all students in this game called life. That got me four tacos, two sides, and a drink for few dollars. Check out the pictures by clicking the picture below. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the food!

Hip Hop Roots –> 07-05-11

Hip Hop Roots (hosted by HighDro)just may be my favorite hip hop event in Las Vegas. A dazing DJ, a badass beatboxer, a dumbfounding drummer, and hip hop performers of all different classes and styles.

This past week, Hip Hop Roots was at Las Vegas Country Saloon. Next week it will be at the Beauty Bar in Downtown Las Vegas.

4th of July Fireworks in Las Vegas

As I was leaving my apartment to go downtown to take pictures of whatever was down there (mostly fireworks and tourists), my neighbor just happened to come out of his place. He told me that we would be able to see the fireworks at the Hilton from our balconies.

I kept on my journey but by the time I got to the end of the hallway, I remembered how there are no coincidences. I almost never see him in the halls so why right then?

I went back to my apartment. I decided I’d wait 15 minutes and if no fireworks appeared, I’d get back to my plan.

Almost instantly, I heard booming from outside. My walls were changing different colors from the lights of the fireworks which seemed to be right outside my window.

I grabbed the camera and tripod, and I comfortably took amazing pictures of fireworks from my balcony while pantsless. I was able to change lenses and add filters as I pleased without being limited to what I decided to bring with me.

Everything happens exactly the way it is supposed to happen. The time that I left was the exact time I was supposed to leave so that I could stay and take pictures from a glorious angle.

There are no coincidences.

Wonder and Intelligence

I started the Daily Dose of Jermil pictures when my friend Allison suggested it to me. It started off as a bit of a burden but as I kept doing them, it became a part of my life. It feels strange to look back on my life before November 1st and remember when days would go by and I hadn’t taken a picture and it didn’t even matter. Now I’m shocked at days when I have less than 50 pictures.

Sometimes I think about what else is out there, like the daily pictures, that I’m not doing right now. There’s a whole world of things that I’m not doing that could make my life more like I imagine my ideal self to be. I’ve started making a list of things that my ideal self would do and places he would go and every aspect of me the way I dream of me to be. Every chance I get, I do as many of those things as my body allows me to. One day, those amazing things become a part of my life and I’ll be the way I’ve decided I want to be.

I’ve also decided to share some 4x5s of my daily pictures with anyone who wants them. In a few days, they can be purchased on my big cartel site of Wonder and Intelligence. I’m working on imagining something cool to send to the first couple people who order.
