Problems Uploading RAW Files to Adobe Lightroom (Pictures Included)

I just got a new camera! I was so excited I took about 20 pics of my cat. Unfortunately, my pictures wouldn’t upload correctly. I thought it was something wrong with the camera itself. In my mind, I started crafting an angry email to my camera supplier. But after a few quick web search, I found the solution.

The camera was just released in October and Adobe Lightroom wasn’t able to convert NEF files (Nikon’s RAW file) to DNG files (digital negative). In Lightroom, I went to Help > Check for Updates and downloaded version 2.1. That solved everything!

I Dropped My Lens

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

I dropped one of my lenses earlier this week after a long night of shooting. I got back home Tuesday morning at 2:30am after Barack Obama’s last campaign rally before the election.

I keep it in a little black pouch and I was nervous to check the condition. I shook it and nothing rattled so i figured everything was okay.

I went to the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon last night to work on my night photography portfolio for class. I could use my 18-55mm lens just fine. But when I used the one I dropped, I couldn’t get anything in focus. I thought maybe my eyes were doing funny things and I just couldn’t focus. But when I walked around to find a better shot, I saw a big crack in the front of the lens!

Broken Lens

Luckily it was just the UV filter that I put on the front to protect the actual lens from dirt and smudges and such. I had no idea it would protect it from BREAKING!!!

Here are some of the pictures from that night.

The Final Rally of Barack Obama

The first Obama rally that I attended was his last for this year’s election. His last stop was in Manassas, Virginia which is where I lived when I first moved out to Virginia. I’m about 30 miles from there now but it’s not far enough to keep me from seeing Obama’s last campaign rally.

I Made My First 5 Dollars Doing Photography

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

My portfolio idea for my photography class is still a work in progress. For now, I’m focusing on some form of night photography so lately I’ve been taking pictures at night with the help of a tripod.

Tuesday night was one of the coldest nights of October in northern Virginia. 40 degrees and high winds blowing almost constantly at about 20 miles per hour. I decided that would be the perfect time to get astonishing night shots in Old Town Alexandria.

When I was done taking pictures for the night, a friend and I walked back to my car.

While walking back to my car, I happened to glance at the sidewalk in front of me. In the middle of a ridiculous windstorm, a 5 dollar bill seemed to be stuck on the sidewalk. I picked it up and it was a normal 5 dollar bill with no fishing line attached to it and no gum keeping it stuck it to the ground. It was all mine!

My friend who was lucky enough to be allowed to witness me make masterpieces said that it was like God paid me to take pictures that night. I looked at it in a similar way because if I wasn’t taking pictures that night, chances of me finding a 5 dollar bill were extremely low.

Either way, it was a great feeling to think that I was getting paid to do what I love. I was thinking about framing it!
