This is what my classes usually devolve into. 20 minutes of “teaching” followed by 30 minutes of attempted suffocation and death threats.

I’ve been taking pictures at the bars and clubs in South Korea ever since I found out where they are (my first weekend here). I did it mostly for fun, my own memories, and to learn how to work my camera in an atmosphere like that. I learned really quickly and took great pictures that first night and almost every weekend since.

Now, whenever I post pictures from these places, I get messages and comments from people I’ve never met saying how great they are. Some people who have promised themselves that they’d never return to these places told me they are planning to go back because my pictures make it look like so much fun. I was also told that one of the bars is planning to do an art show and they want my pictures to be the main attraction. That’s a huge leap from the level of photography I was at 3 years ago.

I feel like I’m in the rarefied atmosphere now where if I’m taking pictures of random people having a good time at these bars and clubs in South Korea, I should be getting compensated for it.

I went to a club named Time in Dunsan-dong this past Saturday. A friend who works there and saw my pictures from other places asked me to take pictures there and make the place look fun and exciting. He gave me a free drink when I first came in which I believe to be completely unrelated to him asking me for pictures. But that’s the only compensation I’ve ever received from taking pictures in the clubs in South Korea. But if I’m getting requests to take awesome pictures that will make more people want to come to their establishment and make more money for them, obviously I should be getting some of that. I’d be a major part (if not the only part) of their marketing and advertising department.

So if you know anyone that works for one of these places and would like more people to come (who wouldn’t), tell them how to get in touch with me and we can work something out.
