I dropped one of my lenses earlier this week after a long night of shooting. I got back home Tuesday morning at 2:30am after Barack Obama’s last campaign rally before the election.

I keep it in a little black pouch and I was nervous to check the condition. I shook it and nothing rattled so i figured everything was okay.

I went to the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon last night to work on my night photography portfolio for class. I could use my 18-55mm lens just fine. But when I used the one I dropped, I couldn’t get anything in focus. I thought maybe my eyes were doing funny things and I just couldn’t focus. But when I walked around to find a better shot, I saw a big crack in the front of the lens!

Broken Lens

Luckily it was just the UV filter that I put on the front to protect the actual lens from dirt and smudges and such. I had no idea it would protect it from BREAKING!!!

Here are some of the pictures from that night.

The first Obama rally that I attended was his last for this year’s election. His last stop was in Manassas, Virginia which is where I lived when I first moved out to Virginia. I’m about 30 miles from there now but it’s not far enough to keep me from seeing Obama’s last campaign rally.
