I think I’m about to drop the biggest breaking news in FOREVER.

Ahem…

THE WAVES IN GUYS’ HAIR ARE NOT REAL! We have to spend HOURS dealing with hair and hair accessories to make that magic happen. The thick pomade, the hours of daily brushing, and the constant durag-wrapped head weren’t worth giving my head the texture of an avocado.

I won’t get into the detail of the process because I was never one to rock waves for an extended period of time. My hair was always in a style similar to this

I was talking to a friend of mine over the weekend and she told me she thought waves in a guy’s hair were all natural until she was 20 years old. She thought he just had “good hair”. She didn’t know the process behind it at all. She thought this was because she only had sisters and never witnessed any of the process.

I found a ton of links through google in case anyone wanted to get more information behind it. I just wanted to get that out there.

I found out something today that blew my mind. People still exist in this country that don’t know the proper way to handle getting a speeding ticket!!! I’ll explain it to you poor souls right now.

Once you fail at talking your way out of that speeding ticket, your mind goes crazy thinking about how you have to pay this fat fine and how your car insurance will go up because you got a couple more points on your license. Most people figure they’re obviously guilty and the best thing to do is to pay the ticket through the mail and not embarrass themselves by going to court and trying to convince a judge they weren’t speeding even though EVERYBODY SPEEDS!!!

But that’s often the worst thing for you to do!

If you don’t have a buttload of points on your license and you haven’t received a ticket in the past 6 months or so, GO TO COURT!!! Even if you did, you have at least a 1% chance of getting less of a fine and fewer points for the violation.

One million times out of one million, the officer talks to everyone who he/she gave tickets to and asks them about their last ticket. If you’re a decent driver, the officer will give you the opportunity to pay the fine and receive fewer points or no points at all for the violation. And this is simply for SHOWING UP! You don’t have to do ANYTHING else. Well, dress nicely and treat the officer with respect when you two talk.

If the officer doesn’t show up to court that day, you’re completely cleared of all charges. The officer will most likely show up though. I’ve heard that if you ask for as many continuances as you can, the odds are greater that the officer won’t show up.

Also, if there’s anything wrong on your ticket, you can get out of it that way. If it was raining and the officer put sunny, the color of your car is different from what’s on the ticket, if the officer wrote the wrong location… anything simple like that can get you out of the ticket.

You can also talk to the magistrate and try to convince them that the officer is a liar and you weren’t actually speeding. That has never worked for me but I wish you success with it.

The most important thing that you should get from this post is that you should NEVER mail in your payment for the speeding ticket. Just by showing up to court, you have a GREAT chance at getting something less to deal with.

I just got a new camera! I was so excited I took about 20 pics of my cat. Unfortunately, my pictures wouldn’t upload correctly. I thought it was something wrong with the camera itself. In my mind, I started crafting an angry email to my camera supplier. But after a few quick web search, I found the solution.

The camera was just released in October and Adobe Lightroom wasn’t able to convert NEF files (Nikon’s RAW file) to DNG files (digital negative). In Lightroom, I went to Help > Check for Updates and downloaded version 2.1. That solved everything!

All pictures are more awesome when clicked…

It’s rare for me to meet someone who blogs. The only people that I know in real life who blog are people that I knew before they started blogging. I wanted to give those people a time to shine outside of my comments. I’ve linked to their blogs below, attempted to explain what their blog is about, and gave a link to one of my favorite posts on their blog.

Jasmine Sadler .com

http://www.jasminesadler.com/blog/ – This blog belongs to my sister. She wrote in it while she had an internship this past summer. One of my favorite posts to read there is this one where she talks about heading out to LA and having a good time there!

rawrshegan.wordpress.com
http://rawrshegan.wordpress.com/ – This one belongs to a guy named Stephen whom I met through my sister. He’s doing study abroad in France and takes tons of pictures and videos. An interesting post that he made is this one where it is entirely in French. That post gives the impression that he picked up the language well enough to write an entire post in it. I’m not sure if that’s true but I’m going to believe it because that’s awesome.

mookzofhazzard.blogspot.com
http://mookzofhazzard.blogspot.com/ – A blog by an old college friend of mine who I randomly keep in touch with. I recently found out that she blogs every so often about whatever she feels like. It’s always about her and it’s always interesting. This is my favorite one of hers. I think it’s because she is one of the few people on this planet that can see through the garbage that people have to go through in order to “stay in line” in the workplace these days.

www.xanga.com/dough1boy7
http://www.xanga.com/dough1boy7/ – Narendra’s blog. Whenever he posts, it’s something great and you can tell he took some time to think about what he’s writing. I enjoyed reading this post. He expressed a few of the thoughts I was having about what is and should be important in people’s lives.

aspiringwriter.wordpress.com
http://aspiringwriter.wordpress.com/ – Sarah’s blog. She’s aspiring to be a writer (get it?) but doesn’t know much about writing a book, getting published, and everything in between. She got a suggestion from someone that she should start a blog on writing a book. That way, she can find information for herself and put it in one place which could help the next person who wants to write a book. She has an intro post which is a great start on a long journey!

bloomingnyc.blogspot.com
http://bloomingnyc.blogspot.com/ – This blog is by an old friend of mine who is currently living in New York. She writes about some of her experiences there being a a teacher in Brooklyn and other random New York happenings. I really enjoy her series on training for a marathon which supports Leukemia and Lymphoma research.

awesomenessinc.wordpress.com
http://awesomenessinc.wordpress.com/ – A blog by an awesome guy who I met through some friends and am utterly glad that I did! I saw this post right when I was about to submit mine. I was just talking about something similar to this yesterday and how a lot of people limit themselves to drinking for their main source of fun. Little do they seem to realize a whole world of enjoyment which can be found in everything.

lizstableinphotos.wordpress.com
http://lizstableinphotos.wordpress.com/ – The only blog on this list by someone I don’t actually know. Her name is Liz Stablein and I found her blog by doing a search for photoblogs. She posts a picture about every other day and they’re always great. This picture is one of my favorites because I’m a HUGE fan of night photography and how different things look at night.

Take a few minutes this lazy Friday afternoon (it’s raining where I am) to read a post or two from each site and find something new and interesting.

I spent about 2 hours Saturday helping a friend get web hosting and other internet related items set up. I got them set up on Dreamhost which is the host that I use and I personally think is great.

I found out that they allow each person who has an account with them to create their own promo codes which allow a new subscriber to get some super-special deal that lets more people consider hosting their own website.

The one that I created for my friend gives her one free domain name which is free forever. This is in addition to the domain name that Dreamhost gives new subscribers for the first year. So she saves $10 a year for as long as she leaves that domain name with Dreamhost. She can take her hosting elsewhere and leave that domain name with Dreamhost and never have to pay for it ever!

They are also currently offering unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space for any of their plans. A year of unlimited hosting and unlimited bandwidth at Dreamhost goes for $119.40. That was the best deal that I found when I was looking and it’s the one that I recommend to anyone who is just starting out. After the year is up, you can decide then if you want to get a two or more year plan. The longer the plan, the bigger the discount.

Click this link and enter Jermil into the promo code section to get a free lifetime domain name in addition to the one that Dreamhost gives you for free. I wish someone had that code for me when I was starting out! I think there’s a limited number of people who can use that one. If you try to use it and can’t, let me know and I’ll look into creating a new one.

If you need help getting things started once you sign up, I’ll be happy to help. Just think… soon you could have a moderately popular blog (and way more cool stuff) like me!
