Changing the Game

I went to a Refresh-DC meeting today instead of doing my usual Thursday thing.

At the meeting, a presentation was given on mobile web and why it’s important. They talked about the differences between mobile web and the web that you’d access on your desktop computer.

I took a ton of notes and I’ll write up a summary probably on Saturday.

Shown Mad Love In The Club?

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

My mom asked me what it means to get shown mad love in the club. I laughed it off and changed the subject. Since she’s my new biggest blog fan, and I’m sure others want to know, I figured I’ll explain it here.

When most guys go out to a bar or something, they end up hanging with whomever they came with.

Usually when I go out, I end up talking to a bunch of people I don’t know and becoming fast friends with random people.

But on the same day which I almost DIED!!!, I talked to some hot 40 year old lady while I was waiting on the bartender.

Then I ran into Lurch from The Junkies. I guess ran into isn’t the most accurate way to put it. I kinda stalked him in the Frontpage. But either way, I got a picture.

Then I talked to some girl who was visiting from Miami that was either really drunk or really liked me because she said she’d give me a tour of Miami whenever I come down there. Too bad I hadn’t really planned on going that way.

But maybe it was just my t-shirt. This is Ashley, Antonio’s wife.

THEN I hung out with Bruce Willis.

On the ride home, my passengers fell asleep. Lucky for them I was in a good mood from almost dying that day or I would’ve…

On an unrelated note, I met Cakes from The Junkies today plus got a Junkies t-shirt and shot glass. And I didn’t even have to almost die!

No Alcohol for 30 Days

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

So I read a post by Da Hunter about how he plans to give up alcohol for 30 days. I did this before to see what it was like. Here is a short story of my experiences.

I did continue to go out to places where people drink heavily. I believed that I didn’t have to avoid being around alcohol in order to not drink it. This won’t work for a lot of people but it worked for me.

For one, I saved a ton of money that would’ve been spent on alcohol at bars and clubs. But I’m sure it went to some other wasteful cause.

Since I was still going to my favorite hole-in-the-wall bars, I noticed how dark and dirty the places actually look when the beer goggles aren’t on. And I was thinking that if I wasn’t going there to drink and give the women an opportunity to meet the greatest guy on the planet, I would have no other reason to go.

I also noticed how drunk everyone else gets as the night wears on. I didn’t notice that before because I was one of them. I felt like I would be taking advantage of a girl’s drunkenness if I tried to talk to her. That took the sport out of talking to hot drunk girls.

And I noticed who were my real friends and who were probably hanging out with me because they wanted a drinking buddy. Some of my “friends” who knew I was giving up drinking for 30 days would still ask me if I wanted a drink. One went as far as to pour a drink and sit it in front of me. But other friends wouldn’t even ask me if I wanted anything because they knew that I wasn’t drinking.

I did that last year sometime. I don’t have any plans to do it again but stranger things have happened. I do recommend it for everyone who drinks. It’s a good experience to have under your belt.

Be well.

I Almost DIED!!!

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

Almost dying is one of the best experiences you can ever have. This is the second time that I’ve almost died (as far as I can tell) since I’ve moved out of my parents’ house. Very few people know about the first. I’ll share the second one now. It happened this past Thursday.

I went out to Chipotle to pick up lunch for my cubemate, another coworker, and myself. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

As I was driving back, I had to make a left turn at some intersection. I was waiting behind two other cars. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

I wait about 5 seconds then look up at the traffic light. I realize that the light wasn’t on. That’s strange. I start looking around to see if anyone else notices this.

Next thing I know, I hear a loud bzzz-bzzz-bzzzzzzz sound and my car starts shaking. I look around to see if I could see anything. Nothing looks out of the ordinary but now the traffic light is flashing red.

All of the other cars are still sitting at the intersection. I decide it’s time for me to flee the scene.

I get out of my lane and pull up to the intersection. I make sure no cars are coming and fly out of there.

I don’t know what happened. I told people at work about it and they came up with all of these crazy theories about what it could’ve been.

I don’t care what it was. All I know is that I almost died. And since then my life became so much better.

I went to my favorite Thursday night hangout spot and got shown mad love. Unfortunately one of my old friends is now pissed at me and I don’t know why. Blame it on the Grey Goose.

I got to the airport 20 minutes before my flight was scheduled to leave and still made it on my plane. I did this by asking the lady who checked by ID and boarding pass if I could skip the security line and get to the front since my plane was about to leave. She looked around and said there were only two lines and she couldn’t do it. So I got in line like everyone else. Then a guy in a wheelchair came wheeling by with the lady behind him. She waved me over and let me jump the line with him. Awesome.

I went to Lord & Taylor and found an awesome polo shirt. When I went to the register to pay for it, random couple behind me asked me if I wanted a 20% off coupon. Then when I was paying for it, the lady told me I gave her 31 instead of 26. That’s because I had two five-dollar bills stuck together. So I got 20% off and found 5 dollars.

And a few more things that I won’t post.

But bottom line, I recommend that everyone almost dies at least once. It’s not fun when it happens but things do get better for a while. Or maybe it’s that you’re more aware and more grateful of the little things when they do happen.

Be well.

What’s Coming Up This Weekend 6-15-07

Subscribe to my feed Subscribe to the RSS feed

I’m going out of town but I’ll still post this weekend.

I am going to post about my experiences when I didn’t drink for a weekend.

I’ll post about how I feel that some people are put in your life for a specific purpose then they’re never to be seen again.

And I’ll post the next part to the roommate debacle if I remember to take my write-up with me.

Have a good Father’s Day. I know my dad will.
