The Roommate Debacle (Part 2)
This is part 2 of this story.
Start Wednesday.
I called him from work around noon to find out what time he gets off work and tell him what time I’d be down there to pick him up. He didn’t answer. I left a message stating that I wanted to know what time to pick him up. I don’t give out my work number to regular folks so I told him I’d call him back in a while. I called him back after about half an hour and again he didn’t answer. I left another message telling him I’d call him back again.
After a while, I checked the voicemail on my cell phone. I had two messages. Both were from him. The first one said that he got my message and when I call him back, he’d make sure to answer it. This was apparently before I called him the second time. The second message stated that he would definitely answer this time. I called him for the third time and he answered. I was hoping he would say he didn’t need to crash at my place because he could go wherever he was going a day early. No such luck.
He made some witty remark about us playing phone tag. He’s a clever one. There was an odd silence as I waited for him to cut to the chase and tell me when he was getting off work. He finally told me and I agreed to pick him up at that time.
I got to his workplace and he came right out. We had to go to the place he was previously staying to pick up all of his goods. He was staying at a hotel and had checked his bags at the front desk or something. One of the slaves working there brought his bags out for him. We both noticed that the guy was waiting on some type of monetary reward for his hard work of lugging suitcases out on a cart and stuffing them into my pimpmobile. He got nothing and walked back into the hotel with his tail between his legs. I wasn’t going to say anything about it but my new roommate decided to say how he felt bad about it. He then asked me for a dollar to give to the guy. I chuckled and told I didn’t have one. I didn’t know whether I had one or not but I didn’t feel that I should be paying for the guy to bring someone else’s bags out. I told him he should get whatever he had broken at the front desk to give to the guy. He did so and we were on our way.
I asked him if he wanted to stop off somewhere and get something to eat. I really didn’t want to have to cook for him. It seems somewhat homosexual for a guy to cook for another guy. We went to Lucky Bar (of course) and got a burger (worst burger ever). We both had the same thing but I had one more beer than him. When the check came, it was around $17. He pulled out a $10 for his portion and I pulled out a $10 as well. He playfully suggested that I put out more. I knew I didn’t hear him correctly so I asked him to repeat himself. Well, not in those words. It went more like… “Put out more than that (nervous laugh)” says he. I replied, “What???” He said, “Put another dollar out there.” I told him I didn’t have another dollar. I thought that was an odd way to begin cohabitation.
Sometime during the meal, I asked him about his living arrangements until the 15th. He is supposed to move in with some lady that someone in his family knows. He told me that he called the her during his lunch time and she didn’t answer nor call him back. He called him before we headed to my place and she didn’t answer again. I knew what was coming next. I could tell he was afraid to ask though.
His dad was supposedly working on finding him other arrangements since the one he had wasn’t working responding to him. As we pulled into my parking lot, he was on the phone with his dad. We got into my apartment and he told me the latest developments. It seems that his dad was calling the wrong number for some other folks that he knew out this way. Therefore, his dad was going to call the correct number in the morning. Then he asked if I’d be willing to take him to the metro (subway) in the morning so he could get to work. I told him no problem and I headed off to bed.
End Wednesday.
