Last week went a little something like…
Wednesday: Valentine’s Day
I went to an Anti-Valentine’s day party at Hawk & Dove. I saw it on this site that I frequent about events that go on in and around DC. It was featured on the news out here so I had moderate hopes to have a smashing time. I went with one of my friends/coworkers. We got there a bit late and there weren’t too many people there. As people started rolling in, we noticed that it was a super-sausage fest. I’d say there were about 50 guys to the 2 girls that were there. But by maybe 8:30, it started to get better.
We roamed around for a bit and talked to a few people. We met some dude who knew about “The Game”. Us three stuck together for a bit and hit a couple sets until random dude got locked into a decent set and was good for a while. That’s pretty much how the night went. The pictures are here.
Thursday: Open Bar at 1223
I went to an open bar with Antonio. 1223 has crazy open bars on Thursday and Friday. We got there at 7 or 7:30 and it ends at 9. We had plenty of drinks in that small amount of time. We had a long talk about a bunch of random topics. I hadn’t talked to him about anything in a while before that so it seemed like that was the perfect time to spill buckets of beans. We ended up meeting some guy who is the CEO for a company in Philly. We’ll give him the name “J”. He was a cool dude. He was trying to ally himself with me and shunning Antonio because “J” and I are both programmers. Then, he tried to unite himself with Antonio and turn against me because they are both married. He was an interesting guy. “J” saw a girl he thought was cute and I attempted to get her to take a picture with him. She was with her boyfriend (or close enough) and I think I was way too drunk to get a picture for an intimidated friend. Then I took a few pictures with some girl that had on a Burberry scarf.
When the free drinks were over, “J” suggested we go over to 18th Street Lounge. I was hammered and didn’t care so we went on over. We hung out with him for a bit at the bar. He got us dirty martinis. That’s the worst drink I’ve ever had. It literally tasted like salty, dirty ocean water. We talked to a few people in the bar area and I ended up breaking the martini glass on the bar. Antonio and I roamed around the place for a while and started playing a random drum set and guitar that were upstairs until a bartender ran us off. We found a 2-set and bothered them forever until my memory disappeared. Apparently I took pictures with a pretty young lady and stole this ribbon she had on her neck. After a while, I roamed around the place confused. I found an empty couch and laid out there. Antonio found me and I presume we left. Those pictures are here.
Friday: Birthday Celebrations
A small gang of people from my job ended up going out to celebrate three of my coworkers’ birthdays. We started out at Filomena in Georgetown. That was good fun for all. I’ve developed a taste for moderately expensive wine. After that, we went to Mie N Yu in Georgetown. It looks like a beautiful restaurant and a nice chill spot to warm up before going to a rowdy bar with a bunch of people trashed out of their minds. We ended up going to a few places with names I don’t remember. Most of the pictures are from dinner, Mie N Yu, and the next place. We also went to Modern. The club looked really nice but it had way too many ugly girls. I saw one of the girls that I met at 18th Street Lounge at Modern and she still hated me. She thought I was way too drunk on Thursday which I didn’t deny. When I stopped drinking, I couldn’t stand people that were hammered like I was on Thursday. However, this Thursday, maybe I’ll do it again! And those pictures are here.
Saturday: Reading and DVD watching
I took it easy on Saturday. I started watching a series called Sleeper Cell. It’s about a guy who has infiltrated a Muslim terrorist cell in LA. It deals more with the inner workings of the cell instead of having a guy like Jack Bauer chasing terrorists around LA. If you like 24, I’d recommend you check it out.
I read a few chapters in a book or two on Saturday. One book that I’ve been reading is The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. It’s pretty interesting and it’s by the guy who wrote The Martian Chronicles
, one of my favorite books. Another book that I recently started reading is The Tao of Pooh
. It’s pretty interesting if you like books about spirituality. It relates the Taoism to Winnie the Pooh and his crew. It’s an interesting outlook and explains Taoism in a way that most people might not see it. And the last book that I’ll list today is Losing My Virginity: How I’ve Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way
. It’s Richard Branson’s autobiography. I haven’t started reading it yet but I read the chapter names in the table of contents. They make the book seem like it would be a good read. If you don’t know who Richard Branson is, check out this page. But basically, he is the founder of Virgin Mobile, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin the record company, Virgin Trains, Virgin Blue, and, my favorite, Virgin Galactic.
The End
I hope you enjoyed my longest post thus far. Toss me a few comments!
