At our free initial consultation, my lawyer asked me to meet him at his office at 9am on the day of the trial. I get there on time and his receptionist greets me and says that he wants me to meet him at the courthouse. I was a bit peeved at first because I figured he thought he told me to meet him there. But later, I realized that he got to the courts early to check on things.

As I was waiting in line at the metal detectors, I see my lawyer walking out of the door heading outside. I was a bit confused. I called out his name. He looked up at me, smiled, and said he’ll be right back. Again, I was puzzled as to what was going on. He came back about two minutes later while I was still in line and he told me which courtroom I was supposed to be in. When I finally get through and go into the courtroom, I see him in a line in the front. I wait for him to see me and give me direction. He sees me and points to the benches where everyone sits. I sit. He talks to someone sitting down in the front who I assume is the prosecutor. I hear my lawyer say my name, the trooper’s name, and my charge. The prosecutor writes something down and my lawyer walks back to me. He asks me to step outside.
