Outside, my lawyer tells that he was talking to the prosecutor. He said they have to pull all of the papers for the people that have lawyers and go over them. The judge will then talk to the officer then to the lawyers and my lawyer will try to get my charge amended to something lower. He tells me the judge is a brand new judge and they went to law school together. Hopefully that’s a good thing.

He says it may take a few hours before all that is done and he asked me to take notes on the verdicts for other cases that were the same as mine. I tell him that’s fine. I go back inside the courtroom and take a seat. The waiting game begins.

While I’m waiting, the gray-haired bailiff leans on the podium in the middle of the courtroom facing everyone. He says to no one in particular, ” For 242 cases, there aren’t too many people in here.” He decides to see if there’s a line outside of the courtroom. He finds no line. He comes back in with a disappointed look on his face. He says there’s no line out there and he doesn’t know why people wait till the last minute to get here thinking they can get into the courtroom. They don’t like people standing around and I guess if there aren’t any seats, you can’t be in there.

Over 20 officers were seated in the front row of the courtroom. Some were in uniform while others were in suits. Mine wasn’t there. Things were looking up. The judge walks in…

Stay out of Jail for a Grand card (part 1)

At our free initial consultation, my lawyer asked me to meet him at his office at 9am on the day of the trial. I get there on time and his receptionist greets me and says that he wants me to meet him at the courthouse. I was a bit peeved at first because I figured he thought he told me to meet him there. But later, I realized that he got to the courts early to check on things.

As I was waiting in line at the metal detectors, I see my lawyer walking out of the door heading outside. I was a bit confused. I called out his name. He looked up at me, smiled, and said he’ll be right back. Again, I was puzzled as to what was going on. He came back about two minutes later while I was still in line and he told me which courtroom I was supposed to be in. When I finally get through and go into the courtroom, I see him in a line in the front. I wait for him to see me and give me direction. He sees me and points to the benches where everyone sits. I sit. He talks to someone sitting down in the front who I assume is the prosecutor. I hear my lawyer say my name, the trooper’s name, and my charge. The prosecutor writes something down and my lawyer walks back to me. He asks me to step outside.

Part 2 coming soon!

Yesterday, I set up the JermilSadler.com website. I don’t know why I put it off for so long. Now I have a place to put up my “fictional” story about my day in court where I faced jail time. I also uploaded the pictures from crazy Sam’s party at his house last night. You can find those at www.jermilsadler.com/SamsParty/.
